TEST DRIVE MEME: The First (Fixed Setting)

TEST DRIVE MEME
HOW TO: Post with your character in what will be a fixed setting for the first round! Do a top level, respond to others! If your thread is substantial, it can be used as a first-person on your application! Remember that this is not game canon, and everyone is welcome!

You were just ushered into a large park by a murder of loud and insistent crows who somehow manage to get the gate shut behind you before they fly off. The park is awfully green for such a dead-looking town. It's dusk, and things are starting to get a little noisy at the edge of the tall iron fence that surrounds the area. There are gazebos, cobblestone pathways, gentle slopes, and of course, the lake and the island with the large, dead tree. It's full of crows, and if you stare at them, they'll all stare back. Feel free to take a load off on one of the many iron and wood benches, but the gates to the city are closed!

This does not, however, mean you are barred from ghost-watching as night progresses. Remember, they won't see you!

[ It's not often that people address him so calmly. Normally, people don't address him at all, except in the most respectful tones that they can manage. Or when begging. Pleading. Cursing his existence. Screaming for him to make it stop. He can't recall the last time he's received a complement on his attire, or if there's even been such a time.

[ Flat golden eyes fix on the smoking man as he considers the comment. More often than not, his coat inspires fear, no doubt due to the human skull strapped to one shoulder. Such a calm reaction is ... unusual. And yet, the smoking man appears to be a completely normal human.

[ How odd. ]

What "matrix"?

[A random, yet mysterious skull once competed with his teammate for the position of Second in Command.]

Not which matrix, The Matrix. It's a series of movies about the hubris of man, the evil robot overlords that rise up and take over the Earth, except for a handful of gritty survivors that fight back using stolen technology. They have coats a lot like yours, only they're black, and use belts and zippers for accessories, not human skulls. Although I have to admit, it's pretty badass.

[Normal is a very subjective word. True, he's over-weight and wearing loose cotton clothing, and there's nothing remarkable about his hair, aside from the act that it could use a trim or a hairbrush, but there is a large scar three-quarters of the way through his face, separating his skin into two tones - a rich, bronzy tan, and pale white, dotted with freckles. His right and left arms don't match either.]

[ By the standards of his planet's mercenaries, who were so fond of robotic enhancements, even that abnormality is normal enough.

[ "Movies" being a completely foreign concept makes the man's meaning a bit difficult to discern. There's a pause as Legato rolls the words through his mind. A story of some sort, certainly. Perhaps some sort of performance, with the actors wearing the coats described. Or, perhaps he's entirely wrong. ]

Is a "movie" is some sort of performance?

[The amount of people here who don't understand the very basics of modern technology astound Grif. They astound him. But of course he doesn't care enough to really question it too much]

Yeah, that's it. It's a recorded performance. [that's the easiest way to explain it]

I see.

[ The explanation makes sense. Something long lost, if humanity as he knew it ever possessed such technology. ]

How does it end?

[ It's not a question he would usually ask, being far more interested in watching as each act unfolded. But at present, all he wants to know is the end. After all, his end was meant to have already come. ]
