TEST DRIVE MEME: The First (Fixed Setting)

TEST DRIVE MEME
HOW TO: Post with your character in what will be a fixed setting for the first round! Do a top level, respond to others! If your thread is substantial, it can be used as a first-person on your application! Remember that this is not game canon, and everyone is welcome!

You were just ushered into a large park by a murder of loud and insistent crows who somehow manage to get the gate shut behind you before they fly off. The park is awfully green for such a dead-looking town. It's dusk, and things are starting to get a little noisy at the edge of the tall iron fence that surrounds the area. There are gazebos, cobblestone pathways, gentle slopes, and of course, the lake and the island with the large, dead tree. It's full of crows, and if you stare at them, they'll all stare back. Feel free to take a load off on one of the many iron and wood benches, but the gates to the city are closed!

This does not, however, mean you are barred from ghost-watching as night progresses. Remember, they won't see you!

[Goddamn, Grif hates those damn birds. Like shit, they're always popping up and making him do things right when he's in the middle of nothing. At least they're just birds, though. He couldn't take it if they had been bats instead.]

Stupid birds! [he shouts, shaking a fist at them for all the good that it'll do him] Why don't you bother someone else with your stupid bird business? Which is for birds!

[Yeah, that'll teach 'em.]

[Feeling satisfied that the birds have been yelled at enough, he heads over to the nearest bench, makes himself comfortable, and settles in for a nap]

... Does yelling actually do anything?

[ Roxas is standing a little ways away, in the grass behind the bench. He watched the scene unfold, eyebrows furrowed the whole way through, and now he's confused. The crows were too vicious for him to try to squeeze through as they were ushering Grif in... so he guesses that way is out, too. ]

Sure, yelling does all kinds of things. Like, it's loud and obnoxious, for one, so people tend to do things to make you stop doing it. Sometimes, it just causes more yelling. It really depends what you're doing with your yelling.

For example, yelling FUCK YOU BIRDS [as he flips the bird in their general direction] makes me feel better.

[ what's that word he's never heard that word before ]

Oh, so... you're doing it to feel better about being trapped here?

[don't repeat it in polite society kid, or Grif's gonna get an earful]

Yeah, pretty much. [he heaves a great, heavy sigh] I mean, what else am I going to? They've got my armor, which is pretty impressive for a bunch of birds, and I'm not entirely sure how that happened.

[journeybroken]

You had armor? They got my keyblade, too, but that doesn't even make sense. I'm supposed to be able to get it back no matter what.

[totallystoppable]

Yeah, really awesome, orange armor. [pauses] Actually, it was pretty shitty, nothing really seemed to work in it anymore, but I've been pretty much living in it for the past few years, so you know how it is.

[journeybroken]

... Not really. [ How am I supposed to know how that is. ]

Isn't it harder to move in armor?

[totallystoppable]

[You're supposed to read his mind, obviously]

Uh, no, that would defeat the purpose of wearing armor, duh. Like, what good is wearing armor if you can't even move in it? That would basically be like making yourself a huge target, which is stupid. Jeeze kid, haven't you been to one of them medieval fairs before?

[journeybroken]

A what?

[ Nope. ]

[There's a moment where Grif's just like "what" right back at him, and then feels kind of bad about it.]

Oh, I guess colony kids don't have those kind of things.

[journeybroken]

Colony kids? [ He's looking at you like you're crazy now. ]

Uh, yeah? Kids not from Earth. From like, Chorus and Harvest and like.... I dunno, those really dinky places that I never paid attention to in class.

[johannesthetraitor]

[What is this man? It is not enough that foul birds with beaks that can thrash through, though honestly, mostly cosmetic armor but here was a man who had been pecked into the park and went straight to sleep. Why was he so relaxed? Perhaps some secret worth learning. The 'armored' man came over, giving the other man a finger peck at the shoulder.]

"What makes you so calm in the presence of power?"

[Grif grumbles about being bothered and cracks an eye open, giving the armored person a half-hearted glare]

Seriously, dude? I just don't give a shit. They're just birds anyway, that's not what I would consider that much of a threat. Bats maybe. But birds? Naaaah.

[johannesthetraitor]

[Johannes just stares for a few moments. As a man from the past, such things as 'dude' was unknown to his vocabulary. He decided to push onwards though.]

"They are Ravens, dark, intelligent thieves, acting in their murders under the orders of an unknown power. So it is ignorance that makes one like you act with such calm while basking in the presence of unearthly power. Perhaps what the Goddess of this dark place took from you was intelligence."

They're birds. [he rolls his eyes, pushing himself upright with a groan, because clearly this guy isn't going to leave him alone] Sure, they're fucking smart birds, but they're still just birds. They aren't magic, they don't work for some higher power, and they're not that big of a deal. I mean, if I had my rifle-

[he pauses, eyes narrowing at Johannes] Hey, how come you get to keep your armor and I don't? Not that I'm in love with my armor or anything, but that's kind of bullshit, and Sarge'd probably flip his dick if he thought I'd lost it.

[johannesthetraitor]

My armor? My armor is just an ornament. It will crumple at any sort of hit you give it. There are consequences of not properly maintaining a suit of armor over a thousand year life span. They took my sword though, that was my life.

[Johannes seemed to have a bit of a shudder of rage before going back to speaking.]

But they do serve a higher power. No wild creature acts in such an orderly manner without direction.

[totallystoppable]

Oh. [He guesses that makes sense. Kind of. Still bullshit, though] Yeah, mine was kind of a piece of shit, the climate control didn't even work, but I guess it's taken a whole bunch of bullets for me, so it wasn't that bad.

[another eyeroll] I'm pretty sure that's not actually true. I mean, have you seen The Birds? It was pretty much like this, only they didn't stop once you got into a park. And I'm pretty sure there was something about dolphins being smarter than people.

[johannesthetraitor]

Seen the Birds? What sort of painting do you speak of? I have been trapped in a castle in Northern France since 856, year of our lord.

......Wow dude, what diet are you on? It's like... 2554 now. [beat] Or maybe... 2556. I dunno, I lost count a while ago, and I didn't exactly have access to a calendar.

Diet? Honestly I haven't eaten anything since I became entwined with the fountain of youth.

Wow, sucks to be you. Food is amazing. Especially Oreos.

[Mmmm, Oreos....]

I wonder if I can find some. That would be awesome.

The world must have come a long ways if the Fountain of Youth provokes absolutely no response in the youth of today. In comparison to what... confections I can assume, are oreos. Though I will admit a confection would be nice at this moment...

Man, I am like 28 and my life sucks enough already as it is, I'm pretty sure I don't want to live forever. I'm also sure that 28 is old enough to not be counted as a youth, so I'm probably a bad example of what kids're into today. Having said that, man, you have not LIVED until you've had an Oreo, lemme tell you. They are the best things ever, I swear to god.

[turns towards the crows, stroking his chin thoughtfully] Hey, crows! Yeah you, you stupid birds! You know what would suck? If you guys went out and got a whole bunch of Oreos and dropped them on our heads. That would be like the worst thing ever, so you shouldn't do it!
