TEST DRIVE MEME: The First (Fixed Setting)

TEST DRIVE MEME
HOW TO: Post with your character in what will be a fixed setting for the first round! Do a top level, respond to others! If your thread is substantial, it can be used as a first-person on your application! Remember that this is not game canon, and everyone is welcome!

You were just ushered into a large park by a murder of loud and insistent crows who somehow manage to get the gate shut behind you before they fly off. The park is awfully green for such a dead-looking town. It's dusk, and things are starting to get a little noisy at the edge of the tall iron fence that surrounds the area. There are gazebos, cobblestone pathways, gentle slopes, and of course, the lake and the island with the large, dead tree. It's full of crows, and if you stare at them, they'll all stare back. Feel free to take a load off on one of the many iron and wood benches, but the gates to the city are closed!

This does not, however, mean you are barred from ghost-watching as night progresses. Remember, they won't see you!

[he's blue. Loki doesn't mean emotionally, sadness does not factor into his current state of being. He means physically. His skin is blue with raised lines in various places. He doesn't need a mirror to know his eyes are red.

He is not depressed. He is furious. His red-hot anger contrasting to his physical coolness. How dare they force him into this form. How they dare! If he even had a spark of his magic he would make them regret it, but they took that too. He could not even access the icy powers inherit in his jotun nature.

Despite his anger, he knew he would have to bide his time and learn about this world. Find the weakness in the leadership and tear them asunder. For that, he could not allow anyone to know how angry he was. It had taken, initially, several deep breaths, but he was calm now.

If the iron of the bench he was sitting on looked a little warped, well, he could always blame it on the lack of stress relief. He sits, hands in his lap, watching the rest of those dragged in.]

[He's never met a blue person before, but he's not really surprised they exist. He's a werewolf, and he's hung with vampires, wolpertingers, and ghosts, so he figures fairies and dwarves and giants exist out there somewhere. The issue is finding a way to introduce himself and make friends]

[Well, no point in beating around the bush, really. He steps right up, hands in his pockets, and flashes a smile]

Hi there. I'm Artemis. You okay, bro?

[Why do mortals persist in asking such an inane question? He's always wondered about this, but has never bothered to say anything about it, mostly because it was a wonderful opening]

As well as anyone can say they are, I suppose. [he glances up at the person] I am known as Loki.

[Well, he tries to be a good person, Loki looks just a liiiiittle bit frustrated, and you know, it never hurts to check]

Yeah... [he glances around, lips pursed] Kinda not the place I planned on bein', not gonna lie, and that kinda worries me.

[Then he just stands there, looking at Loki with a mixture of uncertainty and awe. Mostly, he's thinking he should have paid more attention to his Intro to Mythology class, and he's trying to remember everything he can about Loki. Gods were one of those things that most people didn't believe in, of course, but there was a blue person in front of him saying his name was Loki, and if the fae folk of Ireland really existed, why not Loki?]

So... are we talkin' the Loki, or were your parents just really into the whole Norse business? Cuz, my mom's really into the Greek thing, but I ain't no moon goddess, yanno?

My -- parents are named Odin and Frigga. The people mortals called Vikings worshiped us as gods.

[there was a slight hesitation between my and parents, but he continued on without drawing anymore attention to it]

And clearly you are not the Artemis, she was known for his distaste of men.

Wow...

[He is awed. There is just so much awe going on here. There's also a part of him that wants to ask if the horse thing is true, but that's pretty rude and disrespectful, and somehow, being disrespectful to a god sounds like a bad idea.]

[Mostly because it is.]

So all that stuff is real. I mean, I kinda assumed, what with me all bein' a werewolf an' my best friend's an illusionist - the magic kind, not the misdirection kind - so it's not like gods bein' real was completely impossible, but like, it's just kinda... Don't really hear much 'bout the gods doin' stuff these days.

[pause] Oh man, I hope she ain't offended none, cuz Ma had an A theme goin', an' Apollo 'n Ares were already used, an' what with the werewolf thing, she probably thought she was bein' clever, an' she wanted a daughter anyway...

[erfingi]

A werewolf? [it took him a moment to figure out what was meant by that] You do not appear to be a berserker. You seem to have lost your fur. [nope, he doesn't believe you're a supernatural being able to shape-shift into a wolf]

I have never known that Artemis, personally. Perhaps the stories of her are gross misrepresentations.

Well, clearly you just ain't pushed the right buttons yet! [Artemis chirps, smile going wide and toothy. Then he blinks, and he ducks his head, smile going sheepish] Uh, normally, I would'a been showin' off my fangs right then, but uh... it's kinda stuck right now. [he rubs the back of his neck and shrugs] So uh, yeah.

Yeah, it's possible. Stories tend to get confused the more times they've been told an' it's... it's been a couple hundred years.

So like. How did you get here? Cuz I was walkin' to baseball practice when the crows showed up, it seems kinda weird that they'd be able to snag a god, too.

[erfingi]

[he could understand being stuck, but] Fangs? Do you mean to say you have fangs normally?

[hmm, he had a choice, the truth was he was being dragged before Odin for attacking Midgard, or he could lie. Perhaps a mix of both, the mortal seemed to know something of the mythology, and his time on Earth had shown him so many convoluted stories, so many ways to mess with people]

I suppose this is better that whatever punishment Odin All-Father was going to level at me this time. However, I do not appreciate the crow's audacity. [Odin's ravens were one thing, crows an entirely different creature]

No, but I can like, control them, see? I can shift whenever I wanna, an' the full moon, an' when I get pissed off. [he shrugs a bit] I mean, it's kinda tricky to do small bits? But I do the teeth an' claws a lot, so I got practice there, plus, they're what change first anyway, so it's kinda easier that way too.

Yeah... Odin's kinda a dick, ain't he? [he nods along in understanding. He also has a dad who is kind of a dick. He doesn't know about the whole attacking Midgard thing, but he also doesn't think Loki did anything super terrible in the myths. He usually fixed whatever he broke, anyway.] Like, man. Dick dads are the worst, right? It's like, I'm just tryin' to be a good son, Dad, I'm sorry I don't live up to your expectations.

So you are more part wolf than a man who acts a wolf. [that was different, though not a bad different]

[it's hard to keep the mirth from his face as he turned a mortal from Odin without bothering trying. Loki was glad that he knew more mythology than it seemed] It is more difficult when your rival is as golden as Thor.

Yeah, that's probably right. [he's never really thought about it]

[A pissing contest with Loki, the trickster god? Probably a terrible idea, but he can't help himself. He's competitive.]

[he draws himself up proudly, chest puffed out and shoulders square] I will give you that, Thor is basically the Golden Boy of Norse mythology, but I got THREE older brothers. [uhuh, that's right, THREE of them] They basically claimed all the favor, an' ain't nothin' I can do what can compare to them.

[oh this was such a bad idea... for the human... or werewolf, rather]

Three older brothers is, admittedly, a bad break. However, Thor has enough presence as an older brother to be three separate men. Additionally, your family is not royalty. You did not grow up with promises of a throne, knowing they are false, for you would never be as bright and shining in your father's eyes as your older brother.

[oh that one stung just to speak about, but what's done is done, he could still take Asgard]

We useta be. [he frown, biting his lip] Like, hundreds of years ago, 'n Da... well, he don't plan on lettin' anyone forget.

[he's a quiet for a moment, before he adds] Wouldn't want the throne. Wouldn't know what t'do with it. Guess it'd be different if I was Auggie or Apollo, cuz they were raised with that expectation, but Da never thought I was good 'nough to bother with. Not unless I made a mistake, anyway.

Ah, my father raised me to expect a throne. He taught me the ways of a ruler. But it was never his intention. After all, you can never have a frost giant sitting on the throne of Asgard. [he smirked] However, I managed it for a time.

[For a Hunter, knowing about old gods came with the trade. Knowing about things like Frost Giants came with the business, even if they were fairly rare in most parts of the world. He had become most familiar with Southern and Eastern European legends in his travels, and even Katarina was just from Northern Eastern Europe. So he may see that Loki was something of interest to him as a hunter, pinpointing what he was, well, wasn't within his scope. He did approach, hat down and scarf up. He knew some level of anonymity was useful in first approaching creatures of indistinct ambition. Especially red eyed ones. Always bad news.]

[Decided to keep it simple.]

[Loki glances up at the one word, confirming that the person was indeed speaking to him. He nodded in response]

Greetings to yourself, as well.

[Loki will note a well-built man in a baseball cap looking his way - presumably, at least, as the shades put the matter somewhat in question. But when he strolls over into comfortable speaking range, it can be assumed the initial impression was correct.]

Not gonna lie, that's some badass cosplay you've got goin' on there, and I've got an eye for these things. [The man's voice has a very slight drawl to it.] But you know Mystique's hair is red, right?

I assure you, my hair has always been black. [he still had hair, that was something at least, considering most Frost Giants were bald]

So this isn't a Rule 63 Mystique thing you've got goin' on here? [Despite his words, Bro doesn't actually seem surprised that Loki has no idea what he's talking about. He's seen way too much weird shit to be thrown by much of anything. (And, of course, even if he was, Striders never let on when they're caught off-guard.)

He rests a hand on his hip.] You some kind of alien? [After everything he'd seen from the dreambubbles, alien has become the next most likely explanation for weird shit he jumps to after cosplay.]

[Loki decides to ignore the gibberish coming out of the strange mortal's mouth and focus on instead the statement that he understood]

Are we not all aliens? [an eyebrow was raised] I assume you are using the definition of alien which means a being from another world.

We're all aliens to somebody, I guess. But I'm askin' if the two of us, specifically, are from the same place or not. [Bro looks him up and down.] And unless that's a makeup job, or a hell of a lot of cosmetic surgery, I'm guessin' that we're not.

Yes, this is truly a masterful work of deduction. [he rolled his eyes] You are a human Midgardian. I am a Jotun. We are different species.

[He sizes the guy up again, more closely this time. It's hard to judge height when the guy's sitting down, but he's starting to pick up that this guy's got probably a foot on him. And Bro's not a short man.

Interesting. Not necessarily alarming - Bro doesn't have his sword, but he's pretty confident he can still take, or at least avoid, anything not powered by a radioactive god-dog - but worthy of note.]
